Message from the president

Yoshiki Koizumi

In a society which is overrun with news media and inundated with information, how can Gas Review maintain its own particular stance? I earnestly hope that it will always want to be an organization which asks itself this question and comes up with its own answer to it as well.

The mass media is engaged in reporting and publishing news. I think it should be at least impartial and should not put emphasis on trying to become excessively rich. The reason for this is that the mass media is the one organization in a position to work the activities of society and industry, in other words all that people are up to, into news reports, and analysis, as well as commentary, with a panoramic view of things, and which then makes this available to everyone. What this means is that the mass media is particularly privileged in that it can rather very closely observe people and society, making an objective picture of them, and reporting the facts just as they are.

Gas Review excels at grasping the news quickly and in depth, delving deeply into it. We then make an analysis and finally come up with a forecast of what is to come. Always immersed in the whirlpool of the happenings of the world, together we share people's pains, joys, worries, and surprises. We strongly warn ourselves against enlightening readers or guiding their opinions from a point of view hovering way above, far removed from them. Such an organization cannot hope to become famous, or even dream of becoming rich. It means we keep ourselves distant from those people in famous mass media organizations who are so intimately bound up with elitist moral teachings and who live the life of elitist salaried employees.

We are a small news organization, and have adopted 4 basic principles:

1. Not to employ comments other than those from people whom we have interviewed ourselves
2. Not to use as sources what is only rumor or tales from informed sources
3. Not to engage in sensationalism, and to keep away from scandalous events
4. Always seeing things clearly, to report the news by putting ourselves in a position similar to that of our readers

Although this should be self-evident, under no circumstances when gathering news do we go along with the philosophy of "sales first," but rather we are a member of the news media which seeks to supply information on events and trends accurately and in an impartial fashion. Only then do we make our forecasts. We would very much like to take our place as a member of the media to create a good society through intermingling interactively with our readers.
